My Anti-Aging Secrets

Another birthday is slowly creeping up on me! As I delve deeper into my 30's, and my children are now in their teens, I get asked on a daily basis as to where I am hiding the fountain of youth. I have to admit that I am terrified of aging. I have no idea why. The only thing I'm not afraid of is getting gray hair. In fact I hope I have a whole head of it! I love the look of salt and pepper, or all gray. I think it will be fun adding fun colors to the gray too! I'll be that grandma with gray and pink hair!

I'm not not going to sit here and say: work out and eat healthy. I will tell you that genetics play a huge part, especially in my case. Being part Asian helps a lot. My mother has always looked younger than her actual age too. Aside from genetics, I also have little things that I do for my skin care regimen that help. I'm a huge advocate for homemade and all natural (preferably organic) treatments. So I'll give you a little list of what I have been using, plus a couple other healthy habits, that are key for preventing/slowing the aging process.

1. Coconut Oil
This stuff is magical! I'm not even kidding! You can cook with it, use it as a lotion, and so much more! I found this Blog: Balance Me Beautiful, and this one: Wellness Mama that has them listed! Coconut oil is my go to for everything. Make sure there's no chemicals added.

2. E.V.O.O.
Extra virgin olive oil is another functional food. Same as coconut oil, you can eat and use it as lotion. I always get the organic kind. It doesn't soak in right away, but it's very good for your skin. Think of it as food for your cells.

3. Avoid Alcohol
Occasional red wine is fine, it's the party-all-the-time drinking I'm talking about. I don't drink alcohol at all. I use to in my early twenties, but now I'm the permanent D.D. by choice. I just don't enjoy alcohol, so it's a win-win for me!
4. Don't Smoke
It's nasty for more than just aging. I've never smoked, nor do I ever plan on it. Plus it's a waste of money.

5. De-Stress
This is much easier said then done, but it's very important. I'm a busy mom, who works full-time, and goes to college. I little have to steal time to sit and just take deep breathes. Going to bed early, and giving yourself time to relax before you fall asleep, is a great way to de-stress. I like to do an Epson soak. That always makes me feel amazing! Also reading before I fall asleep is another good trick.

6. Water
Last but not least! I think this is probably the most important. I drink water all the time! You'll never find soda in our house. I guess you could say I socially drink soda, if there isn't a water option. Soda dehydrates you so you will always find me with water at my side. I always drink a glass right before bedtime too. For some people that might make you wake up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom, but it's never given me a problem. Drink up!

 .....and above all 

Be youthful! Love yourself, enjoy life and have fun! Watch cartoons, or the same shows as your kids (if you have kids), re-visit the cartoons, or shows, from when you were younger. Your only as old as you feel! Everything in moderation is always okay, so enjoy holiday snacks, and candies. I know I should have maybe listed exercise, but these are my anti-aging secrets...and it's no secret that I don't exercise! I go to the gym once a month! I'm hoping to increase that, but we will see if I have time.

As far as my eating habits go, I've been an on/off vegetarian, my whole life. I didn't feel like this contributes to my anti-aging secrets, so I didn't list that. I usually pride myself on how healthy I eat, but I am a lover of food! I could be eating fully organic super healthy one day, and then chomping on McDonald's french fries the next! Please don't judge me!
