5 Fandom Friday - Geeky Expressions

Friday, February 24, 2017

It's Friday! Yay! And here's another 5 Fandom Friday Friday  (The Nerdy Girlie.com)

Geeky Expressions Only Your Friends Would Understand....

Star Wars disco dance

Number 1. "I've got (or I have) a bad feeling about this..."
That expression is used in every single Star Wars movie!

Number 2. "Let it go..."
I have used this expression so many times...and yes many times I've just started to sing it!

Number 3. “Inconceivable!" and  "You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.” If you don't know what movie this is from you are dead to me! ha!

Number 4. "It's bigger on the inside!"
I usually get some blank stares from people that have never seen Doctor Who...but ask me if I care?

Number 5. "May the force be with you..." Now did you really think I would leave that one out?

I hope everyone has had a great week! Mine has been busy and my weekend looks even busier! I'm hoping to make some cute cupcakes and get them up on the blog...wish me luck!

Star Wars toys

Current Fandom:

I mean would it really surprise you if I said something else besides Star Wars? Believe it or not, but I'm actually a huge Doctor Who fan too. But Doctor who came later in life. So yes, I'm still here geeking out over everything Star Wars. I can't wait to get my next costumes made for the 501st. I have a couple in mind, especially one where I don't have to wear a mask or helmet.

Current Hair:

This has been my go-to look, loose curls, add flower viola! I'm very excited that my hair is now touching my shoulders! It's hard to tell in that picture but soon it will be long again and I can't wait! I use to do a lot of fun hair styles when it was longer and I miss that. I'm also thinking about going black and adding some purple peek-a-boo streaks.

Current Mood:

I guess my current mood is meh. if that counts as a mood? I'm kind of over the cold weather and I can't wait for spring! I also want to move really bad. Our place is just way too small and we live off of a main road. I have to hear big rigs on a regular basis, which can be very irritating.

Current Movie:

I just watched a movie from the 90's called How To Make An American Quilt. It stars Winona Ryder and it has all the feels! Mary and I have been on a 90's movie kick lately. I have to tell you that it really makes me miss the days without smart phones. I mean I know smart phones have only been mainstream for maybe 10 years, but I hate them. We waste so much time in those alternate realities now. I mean look at our president who is constantly on Twitter. Sad.

Current TV:

I guess the news? Er, I mean the fake news? Ha, ha! Also Saturday Night Live. I can't get enough of it! I've been watching every single episode. I've also been watching Big Bang Theory re-runs and How I Met Your Mother. Those are the shows I watch when I just want something on in the background.

Current Truth:

Stormtrooper helmets

Yes that's me, bottom row, in the middle. Mary and I, and some of our Star Wars cosplaying fiends, performed on stage at Drag Ball. What is Drag Ball you ask? Well it is one of the most exciting yearly events held in Burlington Vermont. It's a night when you dress up and have fun, and no one will judge you...well except the Drag Queens if you enter the costume contest! We danced on stage to a Star Wars disco song and it was crazy! Now, how does this relate to my current truth? Well This night helped me prove to myself that I am still capable of being me. Struggling with mental illness can feel like you are fighting for yourself, and getting up on that stage was a huge accomplishment. I grew up dancing and performing and I never thought I would be up on a stage again! I'm not going to lie though I missed some moves and there was a moment when I almost ran off stage, but I didn't! I'm so proud of all of us! And from what I remember there was a lot of cheering!

Current Book:

Time Traveling With A Hamster by Ross Welford. This book is a fun read and I read in this genre to help me with writing. since my novel is in the same genre it helps me with my flow. It also keeps me inspired too. When you are a writer one of the hardest parts is keeping inspired...and finishing. I struggle with finishing my books because I have to work all the time, but I try to set time aside just for writing. Even if it's only for 30 minutes.

Current Procrastination:

From my last current topic I think it's safe to say my books! My memoir has been a tough one to write since I'm covering a period of my life where I experienced traumatic abuse. I don't feel like I'm re-living any of it or anything like that. I almost worry more about being judged. I'm not broken. In fact I have worked really hard to be who I am today. I have overcome obstacles that most people cannot even fathom nor survive. I know I need to just write and get it all out. My other book is being highly neglected also, and I constantly have new ideas popping up in my mind all the time!

Current Obsession:

Cleaning. Like I mentioned earlier I want to move. When I want to move it makes me want to clean. I want to get rid of stuff that I just don't need. This weekend I went through all of the medicine in the house. I got rid of so much! I couldn't believe all the expired stuff we had! We also cleared out the bathroom. I think we are doing well considering how much we have. My kid's have a lot of stuff they need to purge also.

Well I hope everyone is having a good week! If you do a Currently post leave me a link in the comments so I can check it out!

Outfit Diary - Snow Day

Outfit Details:
Coat - Thrifted
Boats - Life Stride Boots

Wow my first Outfit diary in over a year! And the first one for 2017 and I'm really excited about this outfit because I now have a new favorite skirt! It's very comfy and stretchy, which is my favorite type clothing. I'm usually a leggings girl, but I do have a collection of skirts. I only have one other floral skirt and you can find it Here , it wasn't an outfit post, but I love that skirt too. I love floral print as much as I love polka dots. and this skirt seems super versatile! I picked the black, white, and gray color scheme so it would match pretty much every top I own (minus the Star Wars ones!) and I can wear it to work. I work in an office and the dress code is business casual. So it's perfect! I also think this would look cute with my turquoise tank top, white cardigan, and converse! I will have to try that out once Spring comes. As you can tell in the pictures it's snowing. It's Vermont in the winter, so the occasional snow storm is pretty normal. I have a super cute black top under that coat, but it was too cold and snowy for the coat to come off!

One last mention...those boots!!! They are the best boots I have ever owned!

Anyway guys, I have a long week ahead and I hope everyone has a great Valentine's Day!

Truth About Blogging And Why I Suck At It

Tuesday, February 7, 2017

TBH truth blogger

So I'm going to be very honest. Blogging is a lot of work. I know some people think: I'm just going to start a blog and make some extra money. Then they start blogging, lose interest, don't make any money, and quit. Maybe they can't find their niche, or maybe they can but the pressure of real life is just too much and their family members are complaining that they spend too much time online. I personally never started blogging for money. I started because I needed to have a blog because I was a communications major and once I started I just really enjoyed it. I became a part of a blogging community that was filled with women building each other up and supporting each other in their pursuit of blogging and making a name for themselves. I'm coming up on my 7 Year Blogiversary. You wold think I would be doing this full-time! You have no idea how much I would love to quit my day job and blog everyday.

So let's talk about why I suck at blogging...

1. I work full-time.

I know there are a lot of us out there that work full-time and blog full-time. My hat is off to you if you can keep the momentum going, stay sane, and engage with followers. At one point when my blogging was at it's peak I was working full-time, juggling kids sports events, going to college, and running an Etsy shop. Talk about having a lot on my plate! I also know a lot of bloggers who are amazing at juggling a million different tasks, me not so much. My day job is nothing to brag about. It's un-rewarding and just a paycheck at this point, but it has me exhausted enough to the point where it's hard to jump on my computer late at night and post. I only want to post when I'm passionate about something I want to share. I have to be true to myself and my readers which is why my posting has died down in the past few years. Not to mention you all have seen me get married and divorced.

2. Homophobia in the blogging world.
Yes you read that correctly. Just like in real life, homophobia exists among all these cutesy lifestyle bloggers. Most bloggers won't out right say it, but I have had situations (like collaborations) where they politely said thanks but no thanks, because you're gay. Usually after I have spent hours typing up a post. As a blogger you want to reach out to other bloggers and collaborate. I've been asked to guest post and be part of a lot of different projects, but I also had work turned down because I am gay. One project in particular that I was asked to be a guest writer on, was a project about defining a particular time in your life that changed everything. For me that was my coming-out story. Guess whose article didn't get posted? That's right! This girl. When I asked why my story wasn't published she politely said it's contents was too gay for her. Which felt like a smack in the face for me. She came to me to collaborate and I shared a moment in my life where everything changed. I spent hours on that piece, but it wasn't good enough because she was homophobic. That was the last time I put myself out there like that. I'm actually a very real person not afraid to talk about all topics in the real world. I was really hurt by that.

3. I am me (dyslexia and all!)
I'm silly, I'm weird and I don't have a whimsical life like most bloggers. My life is real, messy, and downright hard sometimes. I've been divorced (only technically once btw) and I'm a serial monogamous. My kids are teenagers and I love them with all my heart, but they can drive me absolutely mad! And I have no problem being real about it. I'm not skinny, but I'm not overweight. I'm that size right in the middle that is super annoying.

4. Sometimes I just don't feel like posting

Gasp! How can she not feel like it!? It's true. I'm not just going to do a post to fill dead air, not anymore anyways. It's a lot of work and sometimes I go through periods where I don't get comments or readers engaged, so I just take a break. I think I've gone a few months before without a single post. Amazingly I still get 10's of thousands of unique views on the regular, but who are you people, and why don't you comment? I know there are regulars...I see you! If this was my full-time job instead of my full-time hobby I would be bogging everyday, but I don't get paid enough to quit my day job.

*side note - I also miss all the bloggers who use to blog and are no longer around. I felt like I was a part of a strong girl-power community. I went through my reading list and found more than half no longer exist.

So I'm just going to stop at 4, though I could probably go on forever! I didn't even get to the part where I explain how much I loathe HTML or how much I have wanted to change the name of my blog, but then would have to change everything everywhere to do it!!! Re-branding can be a s.o.b. and it can make or break your brand/blog. I actually did a lot of research before naming my blog, to make sure it was something I like and not super common. I have a big sign in my house that says Live Love Laugh and I bought it about 10 years ago. That's where I got the idea. Justice, who was about 8 at the time helped also.

Anyway, I'm at home today, sick. I've been fighting some crazy virus since last week and I hope it's almost gone! I've lost my tissue twice! Which can be very frustrating when you need it. Oh and Betsy Devos made it in? I'd love to hear your thoughts on that. I've been watching the news torturing myself.

If you don't hear from me by Friday I hope you all had a great a week!

P.S. Any gramatical errors can be blamed on the flu.

Cute Poop Emoji Cupcakes...Gluten Free!

Thursday, February 2, 2017

Cute poop emoji cupcake

cute brownie cupcakes gluten free poop emoji

cute chocolate cupcakes

These cupcakes are cute, silly and easy to make. The best part is that they are brownies and Gluten Free! I have a gluten sensitivity and finding yummy treats has actually gotten a lot easier then it was 10 years ago. This time I tried Krusteaz Gluten Free Brownie Mix and it was delicious! I didn't do anything fancy, just followed the instructions on the box. I didn't have a tip big enough for the poop-like swirl so I just used a tip attachment without the tip. How cute are these little guys?! Don't they worried in that last picture?? Ha, Ha!

I hope everyone has had a great week! I'm sick and pushing through. So I'm keeping this post a little shorter than usual. I have to get as much rest as I can because I'm also teaching another make-up class this weenend and I can't wait!
