Mommy/Daughter Shenanigans!

Another video! I'm on a roll! Well not actually, this was all Justice. She wants to actually make Youtube videos instaed of watching them. After we were done and I showed her what happens in the editing process, I lost her. She didn't realize how much work goes into it. I think I'll keep working with her because she's super silly and I think she would like doing it. A couple notes about the video though, since this was the first one that Justice shot you have to look at it like crazy abstract art. There's a point where she rejusts the camera and everything goes blurry, don't worry, it doesn't last long. And if you make it to the end, huzzah to you! Plus it's pretty funny. I hope you enjoy, and leave some comments letting us know that you did!

Cody Turns 17!

Monday, January 23, 2017

First off, what a crazy weekend! Saturday we started off our day participating in the Womens March in our state capitol, Montpelier Vermont. The city reached it's capacity and had to shut down the exits. It was amazing! They were expecting about 4 thousand and around 22 thousand showed up! I love my state, and even Bernie Sanders showed up and gave a speech. It was all very exciting. We left a little early so I could make it home to finish decorating my sons cake for his birthday and my social anxiety hit it's peak.

Cody's Birthday is actually today, and I can't believe my baby boy is 17! When they say they grow up fast they aren't kidding! He invited a few of his closest friends and I had to reel in the reins and not over decorate. I toned down their balloon tablecloth with a gold one and replaced the kiddy plates with his favorite colored ones. He was very happy about that because I'm the mom that loves to go all out with the decorations. He requested a homemade confetti cake, so of course I made a triple layer confetti covered cake topped with his age in gold candles. We played a lot of laser tag and I made sure they were filled up on pizza, soda and candy (instead of goodie bags I just filled a huge bowl with lots of his favorite candy!). Of course all that was left of the candy were the orange and yellow straburts and two lonely jolly ranchers. The night was a sucess and I recieved lots of thank yous. If anyone out there is wondering what their older teenager wants for their birthday, just ask, don't guess! At this age they know what they want, and don't want. It's just that easy.

I hope everyone else had a great weekend!

5 Fandom Friday

Friday, January 20, 2017

Hey look! It's vlog number 2 in 2017! I think I need to take more time on producing these videos, but I get so excited/nervous I just want to hurry up and have them done. I promise that they will get better with time! I'm definitely more of a photographer vs. videographer. Anyway, stick with me and I promise they will be movie quality! HA! Who am kidding?! Anyway, as long as The Nerdy Girlie keeps up with 5 Fandom Friday, I will be doing these posts every Friday. That's right, every Friday, my face talking on YouTube! Gives me a chance to become a pro at editing...maybe. Who knows I might get good, or just keep rolling out these cheesy ones. In addition to the Fandom Friday I also added some questions I was asked on good ol' Facebook. Enjoy!

Happy Friday!

Japanese Cotton Cheesecake

Wednesday, January 18, 2017

Are you ever on Facebook and just innocently scrolling along and you see this amazing recipe, and think, I have to make this! It looks easy...right?! That is what happened when I saw this recipe from Tasty by Buzzfeed and thought why not? Well I followed the directions from the video and it came out pretty well. The only thing that was different was that my cakes weren't as big and slightly deflated, but still super yummy! I would probably use less egg whites than what they used. I also forgot to cut my parchment paper so that it didn't bunch up, but I think it added a little character. I drizzled Vermont maple syrup over mine and it was to die for! You can pretty much top this decadent, light, and spongy cake with anything...I would recommend fresh fruit! I ended up chopping it into small squares and snacking on what was left. So delicious! If you are interested in trying this recipe I will share the video below. And let me know if you have any questions!

8 egg yolks,13 egg whites, 2/3 cup of sugar, 1/4 cup of flour, 1/4 cup of corn starch,
4 oz cream cheese,7 tbs of butter

Vlog Post - Bean Boozled Challenge

Saturday, January 14, 2017

Mary and I (with Justice's help) did the the Bean Boozled challenge. I went to Facebook and asked what type of Vlog I should do next. May have been a mistake. I don't think I have been this grossed out in a really long time. It was still a lot of fun though. I think my favoritw flavor was the lime, and my least favorite was spoiled milk.

As you watch the video there is a part where my daughter shifts the camera angle and our heads get a little cut off. No this video isn't perfect, but I was not about to do a re-take! It's also the longest youtube video I have ever done, but worth the watch!

10 Things That You Probably Don't Know About Me

Wednesday, January 11, 2017

1. I'm a make-up artist. I have been doing make-up for quite some time. My first wedding I think was back in 2006? I went to cosmetology in California, but never pursued a career in beauty, for many personal reasons. I work for a Salon in town on a very part-time basis. I've been their on-call make-up artist since 2009 (not when I lived in Jersey though). We just collaborated and started offering make-up classes! I'm super excited for this!

2. My favorite Ice Cream Flavor is Pistachio. Yup, you read that right. I know a lot of people are surprised when they ask me. My other two favorites are Black cherry and Maple. I'm not your plain vanilla or chocolate type a gal. I usually like things that most do not. I like it that way. More ice cream for me!

3. My favorite place to be is in my bedroom in my bed. My bed is my safe haven and where I rejuvenate. The funny thing is that this bed is actually one Mary bought. It's a king size which means all the animals can fit on it if they want. In fact all three cats were laying with us the other day, I couldn't believe it!

4. My favorite animal is the sloth. The end.

5. My favorite food is rice. I grew up eating seaweed and rice and it has been a staple in my house. Growing up Asian you really appreciate it. Rice is one of those foods that has endless possibilities. So many recipes! I love everything from rice pudding to stir fried rice. I think my favorite type of dish that has rice in it would be sushi. I don't eat the raw fish but I enjoyed smoked salmon and tempura.

6. I drink decaf coffee on purpose. I'm not a fan of caffeine for many reasons. One of them is because caffeine has a tendency to throw me into a panic attack because I can't tell the difference between having a lot of energy or panicking sometimes. I just avoid it all together for my sanity and the people around me, but I love coffee! When I was a barista for that one minute of my life I couldn't stop drinking the stuff. Lattes are my favorite!

7. I hate my picture being taken. I know this sounds crazy but I do. I know I take a lot of selfies, but if I This is also why one of the first costumes I chose for the 501st was a Jawa. I will most likely keep making costumes that cover my face. When we do a troop there are cameras everywhere. When I'm not in costume and I do see a camera coming my way I try to just give a big smile and hope for the best. I do want to be in pictures for the sake of memories. I just don't usually like them. I also struggle with outfit posts too, though I'm going to try to give them a whirl this year again. Out of the 80 pictures I usually take, there are only about 5-10 that make it to a blog post.

8. Instagram is my go-to app. I love Instagram so much! I've had my account for about 7 years now. In case you haven't seen mine here is the link to it: eekacupcake. I feel like it's twitter but with pictures. Since I love photography I guess it wouldn't surprise anyone that it's my favorite social media platform. I go on multiple times a day, even if I don't post anything. I love seeing people posts! Leave me your Instagram name in my comments and I'll follow you!

9. The first pet I ever had was a grasshopper. It was the cutest thing, at least to 4 yr old me. He lived in a box and I took care of him. I think I had him for a long time, but I'm not sure. At least a long time for a grasshopper. My grandma would freak out every time she saw it crawling all over me. I loved that grasshopper.

10. I am very spiritual. I'm Buddhist but I also have many other religions that influence my spirituality. Nature is my church, and love and compassion are my religion. I have crystals and I mediate and pray on a daily basis. I am also a Reiki Master and believe in energy healing. I'm also skilled in tarot cards and palmistry. I was taught (by some random gypsy, it's a long story) how to read palms over 20 years ago, and tarot cards came shortly after. I never share this with anyone, but there you have it!

I hope everyone is having a great week! And if you do a 10 Things You Probably Don't know About Me post, link back to me in the comments!

Star Wars Cupcakes - Princess Leia

Princess Leia Cupcakes

Cute Star Wars Cupcakes

I saw Rogue One again yesterday and right when we got home I put in A New Hope. I can't explain how sad I am that Carrie Fisher passed away. In fact when any actor or singer passes away, it's hard for me to watch their movies or listen to their music for a while. With Carrie Fisher;s character Princess Leia it seems different though. Her character always gave me hope, and she was a bad ass. I loved that she could be sexy at the same time too. So today I made cupcakes in her honor, though it may seem silly, but for me it is a way to pay homage to our beloved actress. In fact the cupcakes came out so cute that no one in the house wants to eat them.

For these Cupcakes here is what I used:

  • 1 box of French Vanilla cake mix (and ingredients required according to the box)
  • 1 dark chocolate frosting (it matches the cookies better)
  • 1 vanilla or white frosting
  • food coloring (red, yellow, green0
  • 1 tube of black gel
  • 1 tub of red gel (or heart shaped sprinkles
  • Cupcake lines (I used plain white)
  • Chocolate sandwich cookies (I bought the generic kind because they are cuter than Oreos)
  • Piping bag (or sandwich bag)
  • Smallest circle tip you have
  • Powdered sugar

I know that seems like a lot of ingredients (hence why I cheat and use a box mix) but it's not. Mix your cake mix according to the box and bake cupcakes. While they are baking get your chocolate frosting ready and your skin-tone frosting ready. For the skin-tone I added one drop of each food coloring color and mixed. If the color is too strong just add a little powdered sugar to lighten it. I had to add the tiniest bit of extra red dye and it was perfect. Remember Princess Leia was kind of pale with rosey cheeks. Once your cupcakes have cooled frost the entire top with the skin tone frosting. Next add a dab of chocolate on each cookie and press it to the sides of the cupcake. Next pipe the hair. This part is very tedious, but be patient. Add two black eyes with the get, and a v-shaped mouth with the red gel. The red gel wasn't my favorite, so I would suggest heart shaped sprinkles if you can find them I had seen another baker use them and they came out cute! I actually had to put my gel in the freezer for a bit so it would thicken up.

Today I only had the patience to make 4 of them and then I just frosted the rest of the cupcakes, and added little Kylo Ren decorations to make them cute. I also made a little cookie cake with the leftover batter, because I only had one cupcake tin to work with. I will be bringing them in to share at work to hopefully brighten everyones Monday a little.

I hope everyone had a great weekend! Let me know if you end up making these or if you have any questions!

Current Hair:

I'm growing it out again! It's almost touching my shoulders and I'm so excited! I really miss my long locks and all the ways I use to style it. In past relationships I use to cut my hair when I was unhappy because I felt like I at least had control over my hair. I haven't colored my hair in a while and I'm hoping to add some purple back in it. If you're wondering what I use to look like with long hair, you can see my long locks in these posts HERE and HERE .

Current Mood:

Frazzled. Work is busy. Life is busy. Busy. Busy. Busy. We are in our busy season at work and everything just seems like it is piling up. This is also the time of year where I do a check in with school with my kids to make sure everyone is on track.  Nothings worse than finding out they are missing assignments and school is almost over. So I do a January check in. I'm also holiday hung over. My bank account never likes the holidays and we still have 3 birthdays coming up. Hurry up W-2's! My car needs maintenance and I've got bills to pay! *Que the stress sweats!

Current Truth:

Facebook is evil. And if I'm being honest here, I wish it would just shut down completely. I think it has caused more harm in the last few years than any good that it intended. It's such an amazing way to connect with people, but at the same time it can cause things like our election, for example, to be distorted. I hope that they have really stepped up on removing the fake news. All I saw was negativity all last year, but I have made the conscious choice to un-follow any friends that post negative things. Overall my feed is very pleasant, but Facebook still enables people to be rude, when normally face to face they aren't.

Current Book:

The current book I'm reading is Queen Of Hearts and I can't begin to tell you how excited I am to have some new reading material. For my birthday one of my friends brought me a bag of books! That couldn't have been a more thoughtful gift, especially for a writer. I'm excited to see what adventures I will encounter in my upcoming reads. Now I just need to find the time to sit and actually read!

Current Procrastination:

Going through a huge stack of mail. I don't know about you but over the holidays I seem to collect a lot of mail. With everything feeling so busy I manage to just let it pile up. I think it's one of the most unsatisfying obligations as an adult to have to go through countless bills. I pay almost all my bills online, but I do have paper copies come through the mail because sometimes online transactions are not very reliable. I really need to just buckle down and open unopened mail and make all the phone calls I need, like ones about insurance and what not. I know one of the pieces of mail is for healthcare renewal. I just don't look forward to be on the phone for an hour.

Current Movie:

I'm sure if you know me or have followed me at all you would know the answer to this one. We are going to finally go see Rogue One again in the theaters. I always try to see Star Wars movies more than once. Though Revenge Of The Sith was one I didn't watch in the theaters or even at home until the last couple years. I don't handle violence well in movies so I have to really prepare myself. It took me almost 10 years just to watch ROTS. I was so exhausted the first time I saw Rogue One I'm sure I missed some important details. I can't wait to see it again!

Current TV:

Don't laugh at me. Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. I can't get enough of either one! Can I buy a vowel!? I also watch Doctor Who and Big Bang Theory reruns. TV isn't in my life a whole lot, but that's the gist of it.

Current Obsession:

Outside my normal obsessions? If I told you it was Donald Trumps Twitter would you hate me? I'm sure some of you out there would applaud me, but to be honest it's more for my entertainment. He is the opposite of what a world leader should be and his twitter account is a prime example. I know he wants to stay in touch with the people, but there are some things that shouldn't be out there on Twitter for anyone to read, including terrorists and people that want to cause harm to the United States. But what do I know since I'm only the daughter of an ex-CIA agent. All I do know is that passports are on my to-do-list, just in case.

Current Fandom:

Once again Star Wars is here for the win! LOTR, Harry Potter, and Doctor Who have been bumped down. In the picture above I'm the Jawa next to the Jedi. Yes I have taken my fandom to whole new level, but it was so worth it! I have gotten to meet and befriend some pretty amazing people! I can't wait to attend more troops and build more costumes. This is the best hobby I have ever been involved in. The best part is seeing people smile. I love it when people quote the movies too.

So what are your Currently(s)? If you do a currently post I would love to read it! And feel free to use my currently list. Leave me a link in the comments!

Yay it's Friday!

Happy Birthday To Me!

Tuesday, January 3, 2017

I always start every new year off with my birthday! Well, I kind of don't have a choice, ha ha. Having a birthday right after Christmas and New Years is not much fun. People forget or are just too tired to celebrate. I'm always excited though! My mom put in a lot of hard work to bring me into this world, and I'm thankful for that.

So here I am in all my 36 years of glory! I have more life experience than I ever asked for, and I'm sure much more is to come. My kids are so big now too, in fact my son turns 17 this month! How crazy is that? Soon they will be off to college and I will have an empty nest, all by the time I'm 40.

I really don't have many goals as I get closer to 40, except trying to stay healthy and hoping to finish writing one of the books that I've started. I've started a few, and it's time to finish and get published. My other goal would be just to make sure my kids finish high school and get into the schools they want to go to. Maybe one day I'll buy a house, who knows! I try to keep things simple though, cause I'm a simple gal.

I'm not sure what my birthday has in store for me, but I know I'm hoping for some Star Wars gifts!

Have a great day guys!

P.S. If you're wondering why I'm eating cake in the snow...well why the hell not? I love snow and cake!
