Personal Style in 2013

Sunday, December 29, 2013

Wow! I can't believe that 2013 is almost over! So many things have changed. We made it through our first year here in New Jersey, and it's been pretty awesome! I do miss Vermont and California a lot, but this is my new home. My kids have been doing great! Everyone is getting good grades and growing super fast! My son is already 5'9! I can't believe how tall he is!
Anyway. .. About my style..I think it's pretty random. I really just wear what ever I want. I try to be comfortable too. I did notice that I did a lot less outfit posts then in prior years and I think I'm going to take my blog in a new direction in the new year. I will still be sharing my personal style, but there are a lot of other topics I want to cover. I'm not sure what direction I will be going, but I'm going to keep it a surprise!

Has your personal style changed in 2013? I think I have pretty much found my style, but who knows what 2014 will bring!

My Anti-Aging Secrets

Wednesday, December 18, 2013

Another birthday is slowly creeping up on me! As I delve deeper into my 30's, and my children are now in their teens, I get asked on a daily basis as to where I am hiding the fountain of youth. I have to admit that I am terrified of aging. I have no idea why. The only thing I'm not afraid of is getting gray hair. In fact I hope I have a whole head of it! I love the look of salt and pepper, or all gray. I think it will be fun adding fun colors to the gray too! I'll be that grandma with gray and pink hair!

I'm not not going to sit here and say: work out and eat healthy. I will tell you that genetics play a huge part, especially in my case. Being part Asian helps a lot. My mother has always looked younger than her actual age too. Aside from genetics, I also have little things that I do for my skin care regimen that help. I'm a huge advocate for homemade and all natural (preferably organic) treatments. So I'll give you a little list of what I have been using, plus a couple other healthy habits, that are key for preventing/slowing the aging process.

1. Coconut Oil
This stuff is magical! I'm not even kidding! You can cook with it, use it as a lotion, and so much more! I found this Blog: Balance Me Beautiful, and this one: Wellness Mama that has them listed! Coconut oil is my go to for everything. Make sure there's no chemicals added.

2. E.V.O.O.
Extra virgin olive oil is another functional food. Same as coconut oil, you can eat and use it as lotion. I always get the organic kind. It doesn't soak in right away, but it's very good for your skin. Think of it as food for your cells.

3. Avoid Alcohol
Occasional red wine is fine, it's the party-all-the-time drinking I'm talking about. I don't drink alcohol at all. I use to in my early twenties, but now I'm the permanent D.D. by choice. I just don't enjoy alcohol, so it's a win-win for me!
4. Don't Smoke
It's nasty for more than just aging. I've never smoked, nor do I ever plan on it. Plus it's a waste of money.

5. De-Stress
This is much easier said then done, but it's very important. I'm a busy mom, who works full-time, and goes to college. I little have to steal time to sit and just take deep breathes. Going to bed early, and giving yourself time to relax before you fall asleep, is a great way to de-stress. I like to do an Epson soak. That always makes me feel amazing! Also reading before I fall asleep is another good trick.

6. Water
Last but not least! I think this is probably the most important. I drink water all the time! You'll never find soda in our house. I guess you could say I socially drink soda, if there isn't a water option. Soda dehydrates you so you will always find me with water at my side. I always drink a glass right before bedtime too. For some people that might make you wake up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom, but it's never given me a problem. Drink up!

 .....and above all

Be youthful! Love yourself, enjoy life and have fun! Watch cartoons, or the same shows as your kids (if you have kids), re-visit the cartoons, or shows, from when you were younger. Your only as old as you feel! Everything in moderation is always okay, so enjoy holiday snacks, and candies. I know I should have maybe listed exercise, but these are my anti-aging secrets...and it's no secret that I don't exercise! I go to the gym once a month! I'm hoping to increase that, but we will see if I have time.

As far as my eating habits go, I've been an on/off vegetarian, my whole life. I didn't feel like this contributes to my anti-aging secrets, so I didn't list that. I usually pride myself on how healthy I eat, but I am a lover of food! I could be eating fully organic super healthy one day, and then chomping on McDonald's french fries the next! Please don't judge me!

So what are you waiting for? Check your kitchen, I'm sure you've got some evoo! It's winter time, this is the best time to be moisturizing!

Roses In The Snow & New Blog Design

Monday, December 16, 2013

These pretty roses are right outside my front door. When we had our first snowfall, I ran outside to take pictures! I think it's beautiful when you can capture colors in the snow. The winters here on the Jersey Shore come and go with snow, so when it starts falling, you have to run out and enjoy it, because it can be gone in hour. I also thought it would be appropriate to blog about the roses with my new blog design! I really felt that the blog needed a little update. I've been meaning to change up the blog for a while, and I'm really happy that I finally got around to doing it!

In other news, I have been crazy busy at work. Retail is a beast, especially at Christmas time. I'm genuinely a happy person, but some people can be pretty grouchy this time of year. I have noticed though, that I have learned to somehow handle it. I just smile and stay in my happy mood. It is really that simple! I think I have finally decided that I'm going to just be myself. Being myself means being happy, because I really like happy.

As far as school is concerned, I have finals this Wednesday. I'm happy this semester is finally at a close and I can spend more time here on the blog! I'm hoping to pass my English II course, though I'm pretty sure the professor hates the entire class. I myself have had a talk with him, and I know other people have too. I never realized that a professor was allowed to come into class and ridicule students. I have done all the work he has requested, even though the class never went over anything that had to do with English II. For the first time in my college career I feel like I wasted my time and money. I have taken the necessary steps to file a formal complaint. I just can't believe I had to take it to that level, but by his behavior, I'm sure he just wants to be fired. In fact he actually said it a couple times.

Anywaaaay, back to Christmas....have I ever told you my favorite Christmas songs? I have quite a few, but one of my most favorite is Christmas Wrapping by The Waitresses.

I'm definitely going to do a post with all my favorite songs! Do you have any songs that you love during the holidays?

Decorating & Kitties

Sunday, December 8, 2013

These are just some pictures from around the house. We had a lot of fun decorating over the weekend. The cats have really fallen in love with the tree. Sometimes Cupcake just lays in front of it staring at. It's a little creepy, but at least she doesn't destroy it. She loves to lay across the branches. The other kitten Sadie loves the tree too, she spends most if her time sleeping under it.
How has your decorating been so far? I'm glad I have well behaved animals that don't knock the tree down, though the first night it was up I could hear the ornaments knocking around. I thought for sure we would find the tree on the floor, but we didn't!

Hello Snow

This is my favorite sweater! Thrifted of course!
The snow was really falling!
Me and the wifey :)
I'm pretending to eat the snowball. I love how my son looks at me like I'm crazy..
Selfie ;)
Yay! We finally got some snow here on the Jersey Shore, and it was amazing! Do you like the snowman? My daughter and her friend that lives right next to us made him (of course with a little help from her dad) they also had snowball fights. I don't know about you, but I love snow. I had to leave the sunny beaches of SoCal to live where it snows. Just watching it fall gives me a calming feeling. Yay! For winter!

Gluten Free Cupcakes

Tuesday, November 26, 2013

I'm sure in this day in age you probably know someone that has a gluten allergy. To me, I think that's worse than not being able to eat dairy products. It was my very good friend Angela's birthday today, and she has a gluten allergy, so I got to try out this gluten free brand of cake mix! It worked out really well! I followed the directions on the box, except I used a little less sugar. Surprisingly the cupcakes came out perfect! For the frosting I used Betty Crocker's whipped vanilla and added cocoa powder, which was super yummy! I wasn't happy with frosting tip I used though, I should have used one that added more texture, it's too swirly looking, but they taste amazing anyway! This batch came out really moist too! Sometimes gluten free deserts can be a little on the dry side, but these bad boys came out perfect. My daughter even liked them. I highly recommend anyone who can't have gluten, or who is vegan to try out this mix.

A Peek Into My World.....

Tuesday, November 19, 2013

This is my fridge...I love magnets! I'm an avid collector!
My living room, sorry my couch is messy, but I actually live here and I was laying in that spot!
I finally found all my nail polishes! Moving can be so annoying!
My mother-in-law gave me this lamp and I found the shade at a thrift store!
One of 5 bookcases in the house...we love to read!
The messy top of my 100 yr old dresser, this room will be re-painted in the spring. The last owner didn't believe in painter's tape. I have super o.c.d. when it comes to painting.
I love weird tissue box covers!
His and Hers closets! Once again messy...just keepin it real!
I love nick knacks!
I have to have plants in my home, keeps all grounded.
Isn't this last picture of Petunia hilarious!? This is her favorite hiding spot, which is also where I keep my magazines (yes I still read magazines!) and she has ruined a couple of them, but I love her so much!
So this is our little townhouse. I was going to include the kids' room and the bathrooms, but I just didn't have the energy. I've been spending a lot of time doing homework and working. I know one of my New Year's resolutions will be to blog a lot more then I did this last year. Speaking of New Years, the holidays are creeping up on us so quickly! They are already playing Christmas music at work! I think it's way too early, but oh well!
Question for you! What color should I paint my living room? I can't stand that dark color!
